Equipment

  • Magic Bullet Personal Blender MBR-1101, 250W, 22oz
  • Wide shallow ceramic bowl (at least 16cm / 6" diameter)
  • Spatula for scraping the cup clean
  • Resealable lid or lip ring (included with Magic Bullet — for pouring)

Ingredients

WET INGREDIENTS

  • 1 medium ripe banana approx. 120g, sliced — frozen preferred for thicker texture
  • ½ to ¾ cup 120–180ml oat milk or any plant/dairy milk (up to 1 cup / 240ml for a drinkable smoothie)

DRY INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tbsp 8g unsweetened cocoa powder or raw cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp 12g brown sugar — or maple syrup / 2 Medjool dates / omit if banana is very ripe

TOPPINGS

  • 2 tbsp 20g dark chocolate (70%+), roughly chopped (optional, for topping)
  • 1 tbsp 15g muesli with almonds — or granola / toasted oats (optional, for topping)
  • 1 tsp 4g chia seeds (optional, for topping)
  • ¼ banana sliced into rounds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Add the banana chunks to a blender cup. Add the cocoa powder, brown sugar, and ½ cup of milk, adding the liquid last.
  2. Blend on high for 30–45 seconds, until completely smooth. Pulse twice at the end to check the texture.
  3. Check the consistency. The base should be thick enough to hold the toppings. If too thin, add ½ frozen banana or 2 tbsp rolled oats and blend again. If too thick, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time.
  4. Pour into a wide, shallow bowl.
  5. Arrange the toppings in rows: dark chocolate, muesli, chia seeds, then banana slices down the center.
  6. Serve immediately.

Notes

Note 1 — Storage & meal prep: The plain blended base (no toppings) keeps in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours — stir before serving. For meal prep, freeze individual portions in zip bags (banana + cocoa + sugar) and blend fresh each morning with ½ cup of milk.
Note 2 — Main substitution: Brown sugar can be replaced with maple syrup (1 tbsp), coconut sugar (1 tbsp), or 2 soft Medjool dates blended directly into the base. For a no-added-sugar version, skip sweetener entirely if the banana is very ripe and spotty — you won't need it.
Note 3 — Tested brands: Cocoa powder: Valrhona or Navitas Organics raw cacao powder both tested beautifully. For milk: Oatly Barista gives the creamiest result.
Note 4 — Blender used: This recipe was developed and tested with the Magic Bullet Personal Blender MBR-1101 (250W, 22oz, Silver). The 22oz tall cup fits the full recipe with room to spare. The 250-watt motor blends ripe bananas smoothly in 30–45 seconds; for frozen bananas, let them thaw 2 minutes first. Clean-up takes 30 seconds — twist off the blade and rinse under water, or put the cup in the top rack of the dishwasher.
