There’s a dessert I’ve been making since my mom first showed me, standing in her kitchen on a hot July afternoon. No oven. No stress. Just layers of something golden and creamy that made everyone go quiet at the table. This no-bake banana split cake recipe is that dessert — a cool, comforting old fashioned banana split dessert that comes together in 20 minutes and makes the whole family happy.

If you love easy no-bake banana desserts, you’re going to want to keep this one close. And if you’re into creamy banana layers, you might also love our classic banana pudding — it’s just as simple and just as cozy.
Why You’ll Love This Banana Split Dessert
This is the kind of recipe that disappears before you’ve even set it on the table. Here’s why it works every single time.
- Zero oven required. This is a 100% no-bake banana split cake. The fridge does all the work — you just layer and wait.
- Ready in 20 minutes of actual effort. Chill time is 2 hours, but your hands-on time is just 20 minutes. I’ve made this on a Tuesday morning before school drop-off. That’s how easy it is.
- Layers everyone loves. Graham cracker crust, creamy Philadelphia cheesecake filling, fresh fruit, Cool Whip, Hershey’s chocolate drizzle — it’s everything a banana split should be, in a spoonable, shareable form.
- Feeds a crowd effortlessly. A 9×13 pan gives you 12 to 15 generous slices. It’s the best easy banana split cake for potlucks, summer parties, or just a quiet Friday night.
- Naturally wholesome fruit base. Real bananas, real strawberries, real pineapple. My kids didn’t even realize it was that simple.
Ingredients & Notes
Every ingredient in this banana split cake recipe has a job. Here’s what you need and a few notes to make it work perfectly.

The Graham Cracker Crust
- Graham cracker crumbs — 2 cups (200g). You can crush whole crackers yourself or buy pre-made crumbs. Either works. The crust needs to be firm, so pack it down hard with the bottom of a glass.
- Unsalted butter, melted — ½ cup / 1 stick (113g). Melted butter is what binds the crust. Don’t skip it and don’t reduce it — the crust won’t hold.
The Cheesecake Layer
- Philadelphia No-Bake Cheesecake Filling — 1 tub (24.3 oz / 689g). This is the shortcut that makes this recipe weeknight-friendly. The Philadelphia No-Bake Original is silky, stable, and sets beautifully under the fruit layer. If you want to make it from scratch: beat 2 blocks (16 oz / 450g) of softened cream cheese with 1 cup (120g) of powdered sugar and 1 tsp vanilla extract until smooth and airy. Both versions work — I’ve tested them side by side. The homemade one is slightly tangier, which I love. For a deeper cream-cheese-forward version, try this no-bake banana cheesecake — it’s a full dessert on its own.
The Fruit Layers
- Dole Crushed Pineapple — 1 can (20 oz / 565g), drained and pressed. Use Dole Crushed Pineapple in 100% juice — no sugar added. The most important step with pineapple: drain it completely. Press it through a fine mesh strainer, then press again with paper towels. Wet pineapple = soggy crust. Don’t skip this.
- Fresh strawberries — 1 cup (150g), diced. Washed, hulled, and cut small. Fresh only — frozen strawberries release too much water.
- Ripe bananas — 4 medium, sliced into even rounds. Choose bananas that are ripe but still firm — yellow with just a few brown spots. Too soft and they’ll turn mushy in the layers. Too green and they won’t have that naturally sweet flavor we need. One ripe banana contains about 12g of natural sugar and 3g of fiber — nature handles the sweetness for us.
The Topping
- Cool Whip Extra Creamy — 1 tub (8 oz / 226g). Spread it edge to edge — this seals the bananas underneath and keeps them from browning. If you prefer homemade, whip 1 cup of heavy cream with 2 tbsp powdered sugar to stiff peaks.
- Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup — 3 to 4 tbsp, drizzled. Hershey’s Genuine Chocolate Flavor is the classic here. Drizzle right before serving for the cleanest look.
- Crushed walnuts or pecans — ½ cup (60g). Either works. Toast them lightly in a dry pan first if you have an extra 5 minutes — it makes a real difference.
- Maraschino cherries — 12 to 15. One per slice. It’s the finishing touch that makes this look like a real banana split dessert on the table.
How to Make This Banana Split Cake Recipe
This is a layer-by-layer process. Take it one step at a time and it’s completely effortless.
Step 1 — Build the Graham Cracker Crust
Combine the graham cracker crumbs and melted butter in a large bowl. Mix until every crumb is coated and the mixture looks like wet sand. Pour into your 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking dish and press firmly and evenly across the bottom using the flat base of a glass. Chill in the freezer for 15 minutes or in the refrigerator for 20 minutes until the base is set and firm to the touch.
Step 2 — Spread the Cheesecake Layer
Remove the chilled crust from the refrigerator. Spoon the Philadelphia No-Bake Cheesecake Filling onto the crust. Spread it evenly to the edges using an offset spatula or the back of a large spoon. The layer should be smooth and uniform — it’s the foundation for everything that goes on top.

Step 3 — Layer the Fruit
Drain the Dole Crushed Pineapple through a fine mesh strainer. Press it with the back of a spoon, then press again with paper towels until almost completely dry. Combine the drained pineapple with the diced fresh strawberries in a bowl and spread this mixture evenly over the cheesecake layer. Arrange the banana rounds in a single, even layer directly on top of the strawberry-pineapple mixture, covering the surface completely.

Step 4 — Seal with Cool Whip & Garnish
Spoon the Cool Whip Extra Creamy onto the banana layer. Spread it from edge to edge, making sure no banana is exposed — this is what protects the bananas from browning. Drizzle the Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup in a back-and-forth motion across the top. Scatter the crushed walnuts evenly and place one maraschino cherry per future slice.

Step 5 — Refrigerate & Serve
Cover the dish loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours — 4 hours is even better. The layers need time to set and meld together. Slice with a sharp knife wiped clean between cuts for neat, restaurant-quality portions. Serve cold, straight from the fridge.

Lily’s Tips for the Best No-Bake Banana Split Cake
A few things I’ve learned after making this more times than I can count.
Drain the pineapple like you mean it. This is the number one tip for this recipe. The Dole Crushed Pineapple has a lot of juice. Pour it through a strainer, press with a spoon, then press again with paper towels. Wet pineapple is the only thing that can make this cake soggy — and it’s 100% avoidable.

Choose your bananas carefully. You want ripe but firm — yellow with a few brown spots, not fully spotty. Too soft and they collapse into the layers. Too green and they taste bland. “The riper your bananas, the less sugar you’ll need — nature does the sweetening for you.”
Don’t skip the 2-hour chill. I know it’s tempting to dig in right away. But the chill time is when everything sets, firms up, and becomes sliceable. Slice too early and you’ll have a delicious mess. Still tasty — but messy.
Toast the nuts. It takes 5 minutes in a dry skillet over medium heat. Toasted walnuts have a warmth and crunch that raw ones don’t. It’s a small thing that makes a real difference.
Brown-spotted bananas contain up to 80% more natural sugar than yellow ones — which is exactly why ripe bananas make baked and no-bake desserts taste so much richer without adding extra sugar.
Add the cherries right before serving. They look better fresh and don’t weep color into the Cool Whip.
Variations
This banana split cake recipe is wonderful as written, but it’s also a great base for creativity. Here are the variations I’ve tested and loved.
Make It a No-Bake Cheesecake Version
Skip the Cool Whip topping and replace it with an extra layer of Philadelphia cream cheese filling. The result is denser, richer, and closer to a cheesecake bar. For a standalone version of this idea, our no-bake banana cheesecake takes it even further — with a set cheesecake layer, sliceable straight from the pan.
Add a Pudding Layer
Swap the Philadelphia No-Bake filling for a layer of instant vanilla banana pudding (made with 2 cups of cold milk) spread over the crust. This gives you a banana split cake with pudding — softer, more jiggly, and just as delicious. The kids in my house prefer this version, actually. You can also layer it under the cream cheese filling for an extra-thick, extra-cozy dessert.
Make Individual Cups
Skip the 9×13 pan and build this in individual mason jars or clear cups. Layer the same way — crumbs, cheesecake, fruit, banana, Cool Whip, drizzle. These are great for parties because there’s no slicing and everyone gets their own portion. Our filled banana pudding cupcakes use the same principle — individual portions with layers inside.
Use a Biscoff Cookie Crust
Replace the graham crackers with crushed Lotus Biscoff cookies mixed with melted butter. The spiced caramel flavor is extraordinary with the banana and pineapple layers. It’s a small change that completely transforms the flavor profile.
Make It Lighter
Use light Cool Whip, reduced-fat cream cheese, and skip the nuts. The texture is slightly softer but still sets well after chilling.
How to Store Your Banana Split Cake
This no-bake banana split dessert stores beautifully — which makes it a great make-ahead option.
Counter: Not recommended — the Cool Whip and cheesecake layers need to stay cold.
Fridge: Up to 3 days in the pan covered tightly with plastic wrap or in an airtight container. The bananas may soften slightly by day 2, but the flavor stays wonderful. Serve cold — no reheating needed.
Freezer: Up to 1 month. Cover the pan with a double layer of plastic wrap and then foil. To serve, thaw overnight in the refrigerator. The texture changes slightly — the Cool Whip Extra Creamy becomes denser — but it still tastes great. Add the chocolate drizzle and cherries after thawing.
Meal prep tip: Make the full cake up to 24 hours ahead without the chocolate drizzle and cherries — add those right before serving. This is my go-to for summer parties. The longer it chills, the better the layers set.
